Interviewer: Welcome, to our chat with Caroline, the co-founder and creative director of farans. Today, we delve into the inspiration behind the stunning launch collection.
Caroline: At last, it's lovely to be sharing our inaugural collection.
Interviewer: What inspired you to create the collection?
Caroline: Inspiration. It often strikes in the most unexpected moments, doesn’t it? For this collection, I found myself drawn to the serene elegance of simple, quiet moments captured during my travels. A lone streetlamp casting a soft glow on a cobblestone alley in Lisbon, or the delicate flutter of a curtain in a Parisian café as a summer breeze passes through. These instances, seemingly ordinary, possess a profound beauty. But often found with little twists…the unexpected, like our linings for instance.
Interviewer: Can you share a specific moment from your travels that particularly influenced a piece in the collection?
Caroline: Last spring, while wandering through the glorious streets of Paris I stumbled upon a typical cafe. There, I witnessed an elderly woman sat just thinking and watching the day pass with all her favoured things around her. her calm and grace was mesmerizing among the bustle of the street cafe. This moment of quiet elegance inspired for me the importance of transitional moments and the things that happen in and around your space. And how you should embrace these moments. The importance of designing enduring accessories that help you transition through these moments.
Interviewer: Your designs seem to capture a narrative. How do you infuse your personal travel experiences into your creations?
Caroline: Each piece tells a story. Our luxurious laptop bags, for instance, are inspired by my need for practicality during a spontaneous meeting to Prague. I wanted something that could hold my essentials and more yet remain stylishly unobtrusive. Similarly, our capacious weekenders draw from my fondness for impromptu escapes with Mr Smith—perfect for packing in a hurry and still looking effortlessly chic, flung over the shoulder, overhead on the train or the back seat of your car.
Interviewer: The collection truly reflects a journey, how do you balance the whimsical with the practical in your designs?
Caroline: It’s all about finding harmony. Travel teaches you to appreciate the small joys while navigating the unexpected. Our wash bags and wallets, for example, are designed with both whimsy and functionality in mind. The playful prints are a nod to the joyous discoveries on the road, while the meticulous craftsmanship ensures they stand up to the rigors of travel.
Interviewer: Finally, what do you hope people feel when they use your accessories?
Caroline: I hope they feel a sense of wonder and elegance, a reminder that beauty often lies in simplicity. Whether they’re embarking on grand adventures or savouring the quiet moments in between, I want our pieces to be their trusted companions, adding a touch of charm and sophistication to their journeys.
